Hard Court Refurbishment for Tennis Courts
Are Your Tennis Courts Looking Tired?
Hard courts are one of the most common playing surfaces found in schools, leisure centres, sports clubs and public parks across the UK. While tarmacadam courts are known for being durable and hard-wearing, they are often wrongly considered “low maintenance”.
Without regular upkeep, hard courts can quickly deteriorate, leading to:
- Moss and algae growth
- Surface contamination and debris build-up
- Loss of grip and play performance
- Surface fretting and wear
- Reduced lifespan of the court
At Technical Surfaces, we provide specialist hard court refurbishment services designed to restore the appearance, performance and longevity of your tennis courts.
Our Hard Court Refurbishment Services
Power Sweeping & Vegetation Treatment
On hard courts, our MatchFit® process comprises a Power Sweep and perimeter Vegetation Treatment (to a 1m band).
Rotary brushes with a vacuum system are used to clean the court, removing fine and large debris from the playing surface. Vegetation treatments are effective in controlling the encroachment of moss and weeds onto the court.
Recommended Frequency: 4–12 times per year
Hydrotech® Cleaning
Our Hydrotech® process cleans the court using a series of pressurised rotary water jets to dislodge contaminants and moss.
This material is then worked away from the court surface using a vortex lance. Loose stone, debris, moss and contamination are removed from the court, helping to restore cleanliness and improve playability.
Recommended Frequency: Annual
Colour Coating & Line Marking
Colour coating and fresh line marking can dramatically improve both the appearance and performance of worn tennis courts.
An airless spray machine is used to apply the colour coating. Two coats are required, with the second sprayed at 90° to the first for an even, durable finish.
Painted lines are then marked once the colour coating has fully cured.
Recommended Frequency: Every 3–5 years
Binder Coat
If the surface is fretting, a binder coat can be applied using an airless spray system to help consolidate and reinforce the top layer of the court surface.
Binder coating should only be completed when colour coating is also taking place and is designed to help prolong the usable life of the court.
Recommended Frequency: As required

Important Things to Consider
Before refurbishment works begin, there are several important factors to keep in mind:
- Full court refurbishment can only be completed in suitable weather conditions
- Tennis court painting should only be undertaken in dry weather with temperatures above 5°C
- Courts can take up to 72 hours to fully cure before reopening for use
- Existing cracks or surface imperfections may remain unless additional repairs are completed beforehand
- Different sports can require different traction levels, so selecting the correct paint specification is important
This is why a professional site inspection is always recommended before works commence.
