Specialist Cleaning
Our Specialist Cleaning services remove dirt, debris, algae, and contamination from artificial surfaces. This restores fibre resilience, appearance, and playability.
Regular cleaning helps maintain safety, performance, and long-term surface longevity.
Using professional techniques and industry-standard equipment, we carefully deep-clean pitches, courts, and tracks without damaging fibres or infill.
Our tailored specialist cleaning approach ensures surfaces remain consistent, safe, and ready for use year-round.
Revite®
To complement the regular Drag Brushing and MatchFit® maintenance programme, Technical Surfaces recommends an annual Revite® service to all infilled artificial sports surfaces.
This process works deeper into the infill and carpet pile compared with regular Power Sweeping.
The infill acts as a filter, collecting broken-down carpet fibres, decomposed leaves, vegetation, dirt, debris etc. An infill clogged with contaminants can leave the surface feeling hard underfoot, affecting playing characteristics such as ball roll and bounce.
We use our SMG SportChamp machines to decompact and lift the top 6-20mm of infill. The lifted infill is cleaned, redressed and redistributed evenly across the surface.
By reducing contamination at a deeper level, our Revite® facilitates the drainage of water through the carpet, helping the surface to retain its playing and performance characteristics.
- A deeper clean, varied according to different surface types
- Infill cleaning to restore playing characteristics such as ball roll and bounce
- Facilitates the drainage of water through the carpet
- Lifts and recovers the carpet pile
- Helps to regulate drainage and porosity
- Reduces surface compaction
- Regulates & redistributes infill levels
- Playing characteristics preserved
- Reduces abrasion injuries & burns caused by flat pile (3G surfaces only)
- Improves user comfort and surface perception
PowerGrade®
Regular Decompactions help to regulate the infill on 3G surfaces. Infill distribution contributes to an even wear rate across the surface.
Over time the infill will compact and consolidate below the working levels of the decompaction process. Performance testing may also highlight issues with compaction at the base of the carpet. When this occurs, a PowerGrade® should be completed.
PowerGrade® is a deeper decompaction, displacing the performance infill from within the carpet pile. The infill is then brushed back into the surface, ensuring that the levels are distributed evenly.
Our routine PowerGrade® uses SMG machinery to remedy issues of infill distribution and compaction.
Our corrective PowerGrade® is a specialist service utilising the SMG RotoTine to offer a multi-directional decompaction that addresses surface performance issues, such as vertical ball rebound.
- The performance infill is decompacted widthways and lengthways over multiple passes, to ensure that it is completely fluid
- The surface should be cleaned in advance of undertaking a PowerGrade®
- The surface will be ready for play immediately after a PowerGrade® is completed
- Regulates & redistributes infill levels
- Supports the carpet pile, slowing the rate of deterioration
- Reduces abrasion injuries & burns caused by flat pile
- Playing characteristics preserved
- Improves user comfort and surface perception
- Ensures compliance with manufacturer warranty
- Helps to achieve & retain any required certificated performance criteria
Line Marking
Artificial surfaces are typically installed with lines for their primary sport(s) cut in using carpet of different colours.
Painted lines can be added to create seasonal markings, or to accommodate new requirements, avoiding any risk to the surface construction.
Technical Surfaces offers a semipermanent line marking service using a flexible water-based paint.
We recommend a one-off Power Sweep is completed prior to the Line Marking, to ensure the surface is in a serviceable position.
Line Marking on artifical sports surfaces can be affected by cold and wet weather and requires ground temperatures appropriate to the specific carpet system (a ground temperature above 12°C is required).
- Line Marking is usually completed from spring to early autumn
- Laser-guided automated line marking machine ensures a consistent finish
- Paint requires approx. 24-48 hours to cure, depending on the ground temperatures
- Flexible water-based paints typically last up to 6 months, decreasing in line with usage
- Suitable for short-term lettings, seasonal or temporary markings
- Increases the capacity for lettings
- Avoids compromising the surface construction
- Cost-effective compared with cutting in lines
- Improves the cosmetic appearance and user perception of the surface
- Ensures compliance with rules or requirements introduced post-installation

There are various types of athletics tracks and polymeric surfaces, all of which suffer from contamination accrual, as well as a build-up of moss, algae and lichen. These issues will impact on the safe use of the surface by compromising the traction underfoot.
Our specialist Hydrotech® track cleaning service uses high-pressure water delivered through nozzles fitted to rotary arms to clean athletics tracks, removing contamination, algae and moss. Any difficult-to-access areas will be cleaned using the built-in hand lance.
We recommend that a Chemical Treatment is completed approximately 2-3 weeks in advance, to ensure that any moss and algae are fully treated before the Hydrotech® takes place.
- Hydrotech® should be completed once a year on athletics tracks
- Some tracks may require Hydrotech® more frequently
- The time to complete a Hydrotech® will vary depending on track size / condition
- Surface performance levels are improved, including traction underfoot
- Restores original drainage characteristics
- Improves the cosmetic appearance and user perception of the surface
- Helps to retain or work towards UKA TrackMark accreditation
Rejeneration®
An artificial surface acts like a filter, trapping dust and debris as water drains through the system. Over time, this will clog the infill and reduce porosity.
It is possible to restore the pitch drainage via our patented Rejeneration® service.
Rejeneration® is our patented, specialist process that uses a unique ‘hammer action’ to fire hundreds of jets of compressed air per second into the carpet, ensuring a clean and efficient extraction of the top layer of contaminated infill.
New infill is imported into the surface and distributed evenly using specialist machinery
Rejeneration® can extend the life of your surface by 5-years +, subject to the correct maintenance being implemented post works.
- Rejeneration® is usually only required 1-2 times during the life of an artificial surface
- Efficiency of extraction ensures that significantly more infill is removed
- Controlled, even, efficient and clean extraction ensures that new infill material is not dressed onto a contaminated layer
- A Post-Rejeneration® Inspection will be completed by a Technical Manager, to assess the surface and confirm that the infill levels meet the required specification
- Restores drainage and porosity
- Improves surface performance characteristics
- Improves user comfort and surface perception
- No moving parts during the extraction process means there is no risk of damaging the carpet fibres
- More cost-effective than resurfacing
Hydrotech® (Pitch)
A water-based sports surface acts like a filter, trapping dust and debris as water drains through the system.
This in turn impacts on porosity levels, which can cause moss and algae to develop within the carpet pile. Whilst regular maintenance helps to regulate this, moss and algae will unavoidably develop, requiring specialist intervention.
Our Hydrotech® process utilises specialist machinery to wash the surface with high-pressure water and rotary brushes to remove contamination, algae and moss from within the carpet pile. Any difficult-to-access areas / areas where the pitch adjoins the fence or kickboards will be cleaned using the built-in hand lance.
We recommend that a Chemical Treatment is completed approximately 2-3 weeks in advance, to ensure that any moss and algae are fully treated before the Hydrotech® takes place.
- Hydrotech® should be completed once a year on water-based surfaces
- Some surfaces may require Hydrotech® more frequently
- Hydrotech® typically takes up to 3 days to complete on a full size surface
- Surface performance levels are improved, including traction underfoot
- Restores original drainage characteristics
- Recovery of the carpet pile
- Regulates the levels of contamination, moss and algae that accrue within the carpet pile
- Improves user comfort and surface perception
Sanitech®
Due to their outdoor location, most artificial sports surfaces can develop harmful bacteria.
If not controlled, it will impact on the safe use of the facility. A proactive regime of Sanitech® treatments will help to regulate bacteria levels and reduce the risk of infection or injury.
Depending on the size of the area being treated, treatments can be applied by using hand or backpack sprayers, or by mechanically driven larger boom sprayers. Where possible, our fully qualified technicians will use a high capacity (270 litre) SMG Spray Device, attached to the SMG SportChamp.
A Sanitech® treatment should be applied to the full surface at least once a year. Specific or immediate concerns (e.g. blood injuries, Coronavirus, bird droppings) may dictate that additional treatments are required ad hoc.
- Sanitech® treatments should be applied to the full surface at least once a year
- A full surface Sanitech® treatment takes approximately 3-4 hours
- Sanitech® does not treat toxocariasis, which is caused by roundworm parasites present in cat, dog, and fox droppings
- Helps to regulate bacteria levels and reduce the risk of infection or injury
- Complies with any stated requirement to undertake a decontaminant treatment
- Pitch remains safe and usable and is not closed for an extended period
Winter Revival™
Surfaces filled or dressed with sand may experience silting after periods of heavy rain.
This is caused by drainage issues resulting from infill contamination. Silt deposits leave the surface slippery underfoot, presenting an ongoing health & safety risk to users.
By removing the top layer of silt and contamination, the Winter Revival™ addresses immediate health & safety concerns. This enables the surface to remain open for a short period to host key events when it might otherwise be forced to close.
A Winter Revival™ will help to improve the surface in the short term. It should not be regarded as a remedy, but as a cosmetic improvement and a stopgap until Rejeneration® or resurfacing can be completed.
- A full surface Winter Revival™ typically takes 1 day to complete
- The process can be repeated as required
- The Winter Revival™ treats the symptoms, but cannot address the underlying issues compromising the drainage
- Helps to improve surface traction in the short-term
- Overall cosmetic appearance is improved
- Enables the surface to remain open for a short period to fulfil key events
- Ideal as a stopgap to keep the surface in operation until Rejeneration® or resurfacing can be completed
