Repair & renew
Our Repairs & Renew services restore artificial sports surfaces to their optimal condition, addressing issues such as fibre damage, seam separation, worn infill, and surface degradation.
Quick, effective solutions extend lifespan and performance.
Whether it’s minor patch repairs or full-scale surface refurbishment, our expert team ensures every pitch, court, or track is safe, playable, and visually restored.
We combine skilled workmanship with industry best practices to minimise disruption and protect your facility investment.
Repairs
A typical full-size artificial sports surface is constructed using more than 2000 metres of seams and inlaid lines.
No matter how careful the installation, some failure will likely occur over time. The carpet is also prone to damage through excessive isolated use, misuse, accidents and acts of vandalism.
All MatchFit® maintenance contracts include a restick repair allowance, and our Pitch Inspection service will identify any areas of weakness to be monitored.
- Daily checks are vital to ensure that repairs are identified early
- Where possible, we will restick a failed seam or inlaid line
- Failed areas are cut away to remove the affected carpet
- Early identification reduces repair costs
- Reduces the risk of personal injury claims
- Improves user comfort and surface perception
- Extends the usable life of the surface
FA Register Failures
The 3G Pitch Register, managed by the Football Foundation, is a list of all 3G Football Pitches that can be used for FA affiliated football in England.
In order to be placed on the FA Register, and to remain included, Pitches must be tested at a frequency in line with their position in the football pyramid.
As your dedicated maintenance provider, Technical Surfaces will help guide you through the FA Register Testing process, along with the official Test Institute.
If you have been notified that your 3G Pitch cannot be included on the 3G Register without remedial action, or if inclusion is temporary and conditional on remedial works being undertaken, contact Technical Surfaces
We can carry out the remedial works required for your 3G Pitch to confirm its place on the FA Register.
- Remedial works undertaken in line with report findings
- Prompt response, to meet deadlines set by the FA
- Visual Evidence Report to confirm completion of the remedial works
Infill Removal
Infill levels should be reviewed regularly as part of the ongoing in-house and specialist maintenance programme, to ensure that the levels are maintained at their optimum, or at an appropriate level for the condition of the carpet pile.
As the carpet pile wears down over time, infill that was once held in by the pile is released and rests on top of the carpet.
On occasion, an artificial sports surface may have been overdressed, or else localised accumulations of infill may have formed, resulting in the need to undertake an infill removal.
- Infill levels should be monitored as part of your Daily Checks
- Sand Removal: we typically recommend this material remains on site and is used for top dressing
- Rubber Removal: once extracted, the rubber is transferred into bags for disposal at a suitable location away from the surface
- Improves surface traction
- Playing characteristics preserved
- Improves user comfort and surface perception
Performance Infill Top Up
3G surfaces are constructed with an upper infill ‘performance’ layer, which helps to support the carpet pile and enhance playing and performance characteristics.
Over time, this infill becomes displaced and lost through migration, footfall (particularly in high-use areas) and natural compaction. High-use areas should be monitored and redressed as part of your daily checks.
The performance infill should be topped up once a year, to ensure the levels remain within the specification established by the carpet manufacturer.
We also recommend keeping a stock of rubber infill on site for localised redressing of high-use areas (e.g. penalty spots, corners). These areas are prone to displacement through use, weakening or even damaging the carpet fibres.
- Specialist machinery programmed to dress an exact amount of infill /m²
- Brushed in to ensure an even and effective top-up
- Infill is dressed into the carpet pile, not on top of the pile
- Regulates & redistributes infill levels
- Supports the carpet pile, slowing the rate of deterioration
- Reduces abrasion injuries & burns caused by flat pile
- Playing characteristics preserved
- Improves user comfort and surface perception
- Ensures compliance with manufacturer warranty
- Helps to achieve & retain any required certificated performance criteria
Sand Infill Top Up
The infill material on Sand Filled and Sand Dressed surfaces will become displaced and lost over time, through migration, footfall (particularly in high-use areas) and natural compaction.
High-use areas should be monitored and redressed as part of your daily checks.
We recommend keeping a stock of sand infill on site for localised redressing of high-use areas (e.g. hockey short corners). These areas are prone to displacement through use, weakening or even damaging the carpet fibres.
As part of our contracted MatchFit® service, our Technical team will monitor the carpet pile height, to ensure that any top-up is appropriate for the condition of the pile, and to avoid overdressing. As the pile wears down over time, it can cause loose sand to rest on top of the carpet.
Your Technical Manager will also advise you when an Infill Reduction is required.
- Specialist machinery programmed to dress an exact amount of infill /m²
- Brushed in to ensure an even and effective top-up
- Infill is dressed into the carpet pile, not on top of the pile
- The surface should be cleaned in advance of completing a top-up
- Regulates & redistributes infill levels
- Supports the carpet pile, slowing the rate of deterioration
- Minimises repair due to damage associated with use
- Playing characteristics preserved
- Improves user comfort and surface perception
- Ensures compliance with manufacturer warranty
- Helps to achieve & retain any required certificated performance criteria
