Leicester City FC calls upon Technical Surfaces to help them prepare for this weekend’s visit of Reading FC and Sky Sports TV to the Walkers Stadium.

The services of the UK’s leading synthetic pitch maintenance specialists were required to restore the strip of artificial grass that runs adjacent to the touchline and in front of the team dugouts, which had become heavily contaminated with trapped dirt and debris.

As any football fan knows, dugouts and touchlines are hubs of activity during the course of a football match, and the synthetic carpet bordering the pitch at the Walkers Stadium has to cope with a great deal of player and coach footfall. Consequently, the carpet’s synthetic fibres had become flattened over time, allowing any contaminated material being washed away from the pitch to rest in thick layers on top of the pile.

As well as restricting the ability of the synthetic carpet to drain adequately, there were also aesthetic implications for the club to consider; dugouts are a key focus of attention for matches screened live on television, and club officials were keen for the area in front of the dugouts to be refurbished in time for kick-off on Saturday afternoon.

So, on the day before the match our maintenance technicians arrived at the stadium to remove the embedded contamination from the artificial grass strip. Using a series of machines and equipment – including the SMG SportChamp – we were able to effectively extract the contaminated material from within the carpet, before giving the surface a final clean.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the results of the cleaning carried out by Technical Surfaces on our synthetic tracking”, explains the club’s Operations Manager, Paul Lewis. “Our main concern was that the carpet was in such poor condition that we would have to resurface the whole area, which would have created issues with downtime and cost. Thankfully, Technical Surfaces knew exactly how to solve our problem, and since their maintenance works took place the area looks like new! We are really pleased with the fast, efficient service they have provided, and would certainly recommend Technical Surfaces to other football clubs looking to clean the artificial grass areas in their stadiums.”
