How Surface Rejeneration Restores Performance and Extends Sports Facility Lifespan
Artificial sports Artificial football pitches experience compaction and contamination over time, reducing drainage, performance, and safety. Traditional maintenance methods often remove only surface debris, leaving deeper layers of infill clogged with dust, grit, and organic matter. The Rejeneration® process is a specialised, patented solution designed to tackle this problem, restoring pitch performance without the need for full resurfacing.
Using a high-powered ‘hammer action,’ Rejeneration® fires hundreds of compressed air jets per second into the carpet, breaking up the crust and extracting contaminated infill deep within the surface. On a full-size pitch, this method can remove up to 70 tonnes of infill, restoring porosity, improving drainage, and enhancing playing condition surfaces inevitably experience wear over time, with high footfall, weather exposure, and regular training contributing to compaction, uneven surfaces, and degraded infill. These issues can affect player safety, performance, and the overall usability of a facility. Rejeneration is a process designed to reverse these effects, returning the surface to optimal condition without the need for full replacement.
The process typically involves deep cleaning, infill redistribution or replacement, and repairing minor surface imperfections. Facilities that schedule regular rejeneration see improved surface consistency and extended lifespan, reducing the frequency of costly refurbishments. Rejeneration also ensures that surfaces continue to meet regulatory standards and provide safe conditions for both training and competitive play.

The Rejeneration® process is carefully controlled to preserve the integrity of the carpet fibres while removing even deeply embedded contaminants. Following extraction, the removed infill is replaced with clean, new aggregate, ensuring the surface retains its original comfort, consistency, and performance characteristics.
Unlike standard extraction techniques, which often leave significant contamination behind, Rejeneration® ensures even infill removal across the entire pitch. This restores surface drainage, boosts ball performance, and helps protect the investment by delaying the need for costly resurfacing.
Rejeneration® can be adapted to suit different site constraints, with alternative extraction machinery available when access or logistics limit the standard process. This flexibility means schools, universities, clubs, and local authorities can benefit from the service regardless of site conditions.
Technical Surfaces has delivered Rejeneration® across more than 2 million m² of artificial sports surfaces since the 1980s. With decades of experience, a focus on safety, and a proven track record, our team ensures every pitch we maintain meets the highest standards of performance, longevity, and player safety.
