About us
Maintaining Standards is Our Core Philosophy
Technical Surfaces pioneered the understanding that all artificial sports surfaces require ongoing maintenance, at a time in the early 1990s when the industry was still promoting them as “maintenance free”.
Our first ever maintenance visit took place on 14 August 1995 at Light Hall School in Birmingham, marking the beginning of an approach that would go on to shape industry best practice.
More than three decades on, continued education of the industry and our own tireless efforts in testing and analysis of maintenance techniques, working with prestigious institutions such as Loughborough University, has made us the UK’s largest synthetic pitch maintenance supplier. Each year, we provide maintenance services on over 1,350 artificial surfaces, equating to well over 40 million square metres of maintenance work per year.
Operating nationwide for more than 30 years, we have continually expanded our service provision and introduced innovative methods and techniques that are now regarded as industry standard.
This commitment to quality, consistency, and innovation has earned us a reputation as the UK’s largest and leading provider of artificial sports surface maintenance.
Our maintenance programmes, methodologies and techniques are regularly adopted by installers and manufacturers within their own recommendations and are embedded within tender documentation for sporting governing bodies, local authorities, schools, colleges, and universities across the UK.
Our union with the Sportex Group in 2021 has further strengthened our capabilities, enabling significant investment in infrastructure, specialist machinery, and innovative processes. As part of the Sportex Group, Technical Surfaces now delivers an unrivalled UK-wide maintenance service from two strategically located hubs: Leicester, centrally based to serve England and Wales, and Falkirk, at the heart of Scotland.
This partnership also opens access to Sportex Group’s new surface installations, resurfacing services, and unique recycling solution for end-of-life artificial pitches, providing our clients across the sports and leisure sector with a complete, sustainable lifecycle solution.
